Imphal, June 16: All Imphal-based morning papers, including three English dailies, stayed off the stands this morning after the media organisations yesterday decided to suspend publication following threats from the Lanheiba group of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Military Council).
Yesterday, the group asked them to stop publication from today and threatened the editors and the reporters with dire consequences if they kept their offices open and continued to work.
The journalists this evening met at Manipur Press Club and decided to start work from tomorrow and resume publication from Wednesday. No fresh threat was issued today, they said.
Last night, the journalists adopted a resolution at the press club to suspend today’s publications in view of the “serious threats”.
They have drawn the ire of the Lanheiba group of the KCP (MC) following publication of a statement issued by another group in the name of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Military Council).
The statement was signed by KCP (MC)’s propaganda, communication and technical officer Tamnganba Meitei.
At the meeting this evening, the journalists adopted a resolution not to publish such statements in the future and urged the group to withdraw the threat.
