Further ATDUM has threatened to launch various forms of intense agitation including State wide general strike in case the Government fails to fulfil their demands at the earliest.
The basic demands of ATDUM include setting up of State Channelising Agencies, setting up of an independent Department and offices in all the districts for the welfare of disabled people and increasing the financial assistance, allowance and scholarships being provided by the Government to disabled persons of different categories.
Pressing for their demands, ATDUM has submitted memoranda to the Chief Minister and the Social Welfare Minister and relevant officials.
Speaking to reporters today, ATDUM president Momo Tantanga said that they will impose a State wide general strike with effect from 6 am of September 5 till 6 pm of September 7.
Momo further asserted that the assistance being provided by the Government to disabled persons is incompatible with the changing time.
He demanded that the financial assistance of Rs 1000 per annum being provided to disabled persons should be increased to Rs 10,000 per year.
The unemployment allowance of Rs 100 per month for matriculates should be increased to Rs 300 per month, he demanded while also appealing for increasing the scholarships being provided to disabled persons of different categories.
Stating that different specialists of JN Hospital used to identify disabled persons, people with eye disabilities are facing difficulties to identify disabled persons, people with eye disabilities are facing difficulties as the specialist who used to identify people with eye disabilities have left the hospital.
The ATDUM president further appealed to all concerned to station a specialist at JN Hospital, Porompat for identification of people with eye disabilities.
